Every fall the local orchards have pick your own events. When the Kids were very young we would enjoy going to pick apples to make home made apple sauce. It never lasts long as the flavor is so much better and you can make it how your family likes it, not how a big company makes it for the masses. Since that time it has been a mission of ours to have an orchard. This single solitary apple is our first step in that direction. We have much to learn about care and pruning for an apple tree. Protection from our local deer will be high on the list. The clearing of land to plant the trees will be another challenge. and an adventure we will take you on in the coming months. We have had this tree now for 2 seasons and it has fared the best of the 3 trees we purchased, 2 of them did not survive the winter, so chalk up some more learning and we will press on with our one tree and this single, solitary apple. One day several years from now we will make our own applesauce. Until then we will do the best we can with what we have, support the local orchards and patiently remember that nothing happens overnight.
