It will be a few years until we have a harvest from our own blueberries, so this year we went to a pick your own. With very reasonable prices to start and pricing that drops the more you harvest ( you get a ticket to track the entire year not a single harvest) we set out
We ended up harvesting a decent 26 pounds and that will definitely go a long way to keeping some fruit for part of the year. We obviously couldn’t pick that many berries without trying some and they were very good. As with most of the things you do yourself the ability to select the ripeness you like is a major benefit. The just ripe are slightly tart the mid level are sweet and the fall off of the stem ripe are sweeeeeeeeet (but unlikely to last). So now over the coming days we will have major blueberry production freezing, scones, pancakes and ice cream to name a few. Let us know your favorite way to use blueberries and if you think we need to get more.
